Australia
Yesterday I met with two Australians from a local foundation. One, the senior pastor, and the other in charge of, among other things, visas for their missionaries. The church is in a unique position as a Christian foundation, and so visas would work quite differently to if I had have gone with WEC, for example. They present a very good opportunity for me for next year, we’ll see what happens.
But no matter how good the meeting was (although the pastor did say I don’t have an Australian accent but a slightly Irish one), it was overshadowed by today’s events.
I found Vegemite.
Casually speaking to the two at the meeting, the conversation came to Vegemite, Pies, Sausages, you know, the stuff that dreams are made of, and they told me a place that I could get them all (almost as good as back home). So today I got on my bike, and sped down to find this legendary place. Walking back and forth through the isles, I would see familiar brands, Kraft, Sanitarium, Four & Twenty, see familiar products, Weetbix, Pies, Sausage Rolls. It was like reuniting with long lost friends. A tear came to my eye as I fell to my knees and praised God (in Australian slang, of course!) … And then I saw the price… Just an occasional treat then…
Oh, and Jumpy has decided to stay. :)
